When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in 2014 with my best friend Christa. We were roomies/besties throughout college and also lived with one another for some time in the last few years. Not only is she an amazing friend but she’s a great event planner. We thought it would be fun to blog together and share her events with my passion for fashion. It was a creative outlet to escape from our daily routines.
Due to her crazy schedule, (working a ton of late events and dealing with multiple venders) Christa decided that she wanted to focus more on her career. As for me, I decided to go on my own to see what I could offer the fashion world!
I still text her with pictures/ideas from time to time to see what she thinks and if they’re “post worthy”. If you read some of our older posts, you will notice a lot of her past contributions (seen in the archives section).
How did you come up with your blog name?
Christa and I spent days thinking about different names. A lot of the ones we liked were already taken or we were “over them” a minute later. One day, Christa sent me a text message with “Stay Styled” and the rest was history.
What does your blog name mean?
Staying Styled to me, means that everything you wear, think and do, should be expressed through fashion. Every day you have an opportunity to make a statement. Whether it’s dressing up or keeping it casual, I believe you can be‘stay styled’ in every aspect in your life.
What would you say is your specific style?
This is such a hard question for me to answer because I’m all over the place with what I wear. I love to shop and if I see something I like, I just buy it. I honestly think fashion is too fun to stick to one specific style.
Is blogging your full-time occupation?
I wish! I work at a corporate medical office (completely the opposite of anything creative ha ha). Blogging is my creative hobby that I enjoy.
How do you balance work, blogging and your social life?
Work is work – you just get up and go and do the best that you can. There’s really no way around it unless you want to be behind on your bills 😉
With blogging, I make time for it because it’s something I love and I’m passionate about. Most of the time I’m up late editing my posts and asking my husband for help since he’s THE grammar expert. He is the BEST at coming up with catchy titles too.
As for my social life…I’ve always considered myself an outgoing person. Growing up as an only child I LOVE being around people. I’ve always believed that it’s important to make time for your friends.
Who takes your blog pictures?
My dear friend, and blogger babe Amanda from The Southcoast Movement. She is awesome and because she is a blogger too she knows exactly what I’m looking for.
Where did you meet your husband?
I meet him at a club/bar. I wish I had a more romantic story for you but I don’t ha ha. He asked for my number and eventually I gave it to him. In the beginning, we would text each other here and there but nothing serious until a few months had gone by. Now, five years later, after four crazy and grueling baseball seasons and work schedules, we’re happily married. (11-14-15)
Hands down, GWEN STEFANI. I’ve loved her and her style since I was in grade school! When I saw her on the cover of “Tragic Kindom”, I thought she was the coolest. Her edgy and chic style are the perfect combo and I always wished I could pull it off.
Favorite Bloggers & Instagramers
This changes all of the time… as of now I currently love these ones.
Walkin Wonderland (Sheryl) – Her style is ALWAYS on point. I wish I had a wardrobe like hers! I love following her on Instagram and seeing her cute shout outs to her husband “Mr. Wonderland”.
Somewhere Lately (Brooke & Meggan) – I love that there are two of them running their blog. I enjoy seeing their different styles and posts. Their Instagram feed is so much fun to follow because one is in New York and the other is in Chicago, so you get to see what each one is doing. Also, I LOVE the funny quotes that they post (I’m constantly tagging my friends).
Blank Itinerary (Paola) – She is based in Southern California however, she’s always traveling which is fun to see on her Instagram. Not to mention, her style is A M A Z I N G.
What is your hair routine?
I can’t tell you how many emails and comments I get with people asking me about my hair. I never really thought of myself as a “good hair” person. So it’s been a real confidence booster ha ha.
I typically wash my hair every three days (yes three!) I try and preserve as much natural oils that I can. Trust me I use a lot of dry shampoo by the third day and wear my hair in a ponytail or bun. I try not to blow dry my hair because I know the heat is not too good for it.
After I wash my hair I put Moroccan or my NuMe serum in it. This helps with my dead ends.
I don’t have a particular shampoo and conditioner that I stick to. Once they run out I try a new brand but if I had to pick one I really like “Enjoy”. I read in a magazine a long time ago that it’s better to try different products for your hair.
I try and deep condition my hair at least every other week with Moroccan cream. I can’t do it too much because my hair will get greasy.
Who styles your hair?
My friend Lauren from Salon Shanti. She cuts and colors all of our friends hair and she’s literally the BEST.
The last time I dyed my hair was in 2005 and in 2014 I told her I was ready for a change. I wanted an ombre and showed her multiple pictures that I had pinned. She knew exactly what my vision was and she accomplished it. I plan on dying it back to brown for my wedding but knowing me I will probably go back after that to the ombre because I love it so much.
If you’re in the Orange County area, I highly recommend her!
Do you wear extensions?
Yes and no. I use to wear my 18” Sally’s Beauty extensions whenever I went out but now that my hair is the same length as them, I don’t. If I ever want my hair to look thicker I’ll occasionally pop them in. Once I decide on what hair color I plan on keeping for a while, I’ll probably purchase the 22” extensions.
