Yesterday, I shared some helpful planning tips leading up to your big day, (post seen here) so I thought it would be a good idea to follow it with “SAVE vs. SPLURGE TIPS”. This post is MUCH longer so I’m warning you now!
First, write a list of what’s important to you and your fiancé and you can decide what you want to save or splurge on. My list might not be the same as yours so you can revise your own however you want.
GARTERS: Don’t break the bank on your garters. You end up buying two (many of them come in a set), one of them you throw at your reception, and the other you keep. I highly recommend ETSY verses buying them at your department stores. (Here is the link to my garters).
JEWELRY: I researched different sites to find affordable wedding jewelry and ended up going through ETSY.
ACCESSORIES: When I bought my wedding dress I ended up buying a belt with it. Looking back on it, I should’ve waited and looked online for another one. Although, mine was beautiful and I loved it, I know I could’ve found one for a more affordable price.
INVITATIONS: We had a friend design ours as a wedding gift and ended up printing them ourselves. Looking back on it, we saved a TON of money doing this. I’m not going to lie, it took forever so make sure you read reviews on the package you buy and sizing of paper. We bought ours through Michaels and if I could do it again, I would go with another brand (seen in this blog post)
PROGRAMS & SIGNS: I was lucky enough that my friend had gotten married a few months prior to mine and she sent me her template. She bought hers from ETSY for $15 and was able to print them from Staples. I ended up doing the same thing and it was around $100.
DESSERT: My husband and I are not big cake eaters so we decided to get cupcakes for our guests and just the top layer of the cake for us to cut. We went with Desi from [DESI]gn Cakes & Cupcakes, she is a college friend of mine and she was also a winner on “Cupcake Wars” (mentioned here).
CHAIRS: Even though I wanted to upgrade our reception chairs I’m happy I didn’t. We had over 240 guests and it would’ve been way too expensive. We rented two “ghost” chairs for the sweetheart table.
LINEN: Our wedding colors were black and white so it was easy to save on linen because our venue offered decent “house linen”. We did rent different linen for the “sweet heart” table which made us stand out.
MAKEUP ARTIST: On your wedding day, you want to look like a better version of yourself. When I went for my first makeup trial I was disappointed in the outcome. Although the artist was nice, I did not think she did a great job and I knew I could find someone with the same vision as myself. I ended up going with LuLu (DolledUpByLuLu.com) who is A M A Z I N G! If you’re in the Southern California area I HIGHLY recommend her. She has many years of experience, quick, professional and the SWEETEST person!
PHOTOGRAPHER: Make sure you do your research when it comes to finding your photographer. DO NOT settle! We were BEYOND happy with our photographer Kamee June (Kamee June Photography) & her wedding partner Ashley. My entire family, bridal party and guests LOVED them both, not only did they do an amazing job but they were a blast to have at our wedding.
DJ: Do not cut corners when it comes to your DJ, make sure to read reviews and pick someone with experience! This was a big deal to my husband because we are both into music and knew exactly what we wanted. I can’t tell you enough how amazing Jon, from JC Entertainment was, not only was he extremely professional but he understood our vision. Great guy too.
HOTEL SUITE: For your bridal suite, upgrade for the bigger room because you will need it! I was fortunate that our hotel offered us a Villa at the suite price (pics seen here).
GIFTS: Take care of your MOH and BMs, they’re spending a TON of money on your engagement, shower, bachelorette and wedding. I even decided to personalize their gift bags! Bonnie, from Pen and Letter has the prettiest calligraphy and I loved the way the bags turned out.
FLOWERS: For some people flowers are not a big deal however, to my mom and I it was. After seeing pictures from my wedding I thought they really made a huge difference in the setting. I loved how our Chuppah (Alter/over-hang), sweetheart table and centerpieces turned out.
Loved how this turned out!
Such a cool shot of our venue.
